Obama’s jobs record: Better than Bush’s

Jobs lost represents drop in payrolls from inauguration to the low point for jobs after the first-term recessions. Jobs recovered indicates the gain from that low point through the August before the election. And months of disappointing jobs growth means the president could face Election Day with fewer workers than on the day he took office.

But Romney’s accusation is wrong — President Obama’s job gap isn’t the worst. In fact, it isn’t nearly as big as the one President George Bush faced eight years ago.

Here are the numbers:There are 261,000 fewer employees on payrolls today than when Obama took office. But at the same point of the Bush administration, the jobs deficit stood at 856,000 jobs, according to current estimates of the same period.

The data that was reported eight years ago was somewhat different, compared with current figures looking at that period, since revisions have taken place in the months and years that followed. But on Election Day 2004, the readings at the time showed the economy with 585,000 fewer jobs than when Bush took office. As Election Day approached, then-challenger John Kerry was highlighting Bush’s job gap, just as the Romney campaign is attacking Obama today.

Sex Life

Single Men:

There comes a time in your life when you have to ask yourself a real question. That time differs for every man. Every man gotta roam a lil bit before he can make his home. But, one day ask yourself. In all the roaming you’ve done, how many of those women were REALLY worth settling down with? Three, four? Now, look back at those “wifeable” chicks. How many of them have already been wifed by somebody else? The choices, they gets slimmer as you gets older. Food for though

The iPhone 5 may be Apple’s last blowout U.S. bestseller

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — The iPhone 5 hasn’t even hit stores yet and it’s already blowing the doors off the competition. Apple pre-sold 2 million iPhone 5s in one day, setting a new smartphone record.Industry analysts widely expect the iPhone 5 to be the bestselling mobile device of all time. Given the way Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) continues winning over consumers around the world, the iPhone 5’s global record will probably last exactly one sales cycle, until the iPhone 6 is released. In the United States, however, there’s a reasonable chance that the iPhone 5 will hold the nation’s smartphone sales record for much longer — maybe forever. As the smartphone boom comes to an end and carriers make upgrades more expensive and onerous for their customers, the iPhone’s popularity in the U.S. is likely to plateau. The number of American smartphone subscribers is expected to reach nearly 140 million by the end of 2012, equal to 57% of wireless customers, according to Kevin Smithen, an analyst at Macquarie Securities. The percentage of wireless subscribers with a smartphone is on pace to eclipse the magic 70% threshold next year — the level at which most telecommunications services, like cable and broadband, have historically begun to slow their rapid rise.”The smartphone market, and particularly the iPhone market, will slow next year after very strong shipments of the next iPhone through year-end,” Smithen predicts. The U.S. smartphone upgrade rate has already begun to fall, thanks to a combination of factors. Innovation has slowed over the past couple years (the iPhone 5 has another row of apps!) and carriers have begun to make upgrades more expensive and less desirable (hello, “shared data” plans). After the iPhone 4S launch absolutely decimated carriers’ profit margins, the networks made their upgrade policies more restrictive by raising activation fees, forcing customers to adopt tiered plans and lengthening the time customers need to stay under contract to become eligible for a new phone.

“These moves should result in fewer total upgrades … than seen in prior launches,” said Mike McCormack, analyst at Nomura Securities.

Stop chasing shadows, develop Nigeria, Senate President tells FG

The Senate President, David Mark, on Wednesday, blasted the presidency for compounding the problems of Nigerians by creating untold hardship for the people due to poor budget implementation.Mr Mark made this statement during his opening remarks after the senate returned from its 8 weeks recess.

He said that President Goodluck Jonathan and his economic team should go for robust economic policies that will take Nigeria out of the current economic crisis instead of just chasing after shadows and coursing more problems for the nation.

“Those who manage the nation’s economy cannot afford to chase shadows while the economy is in the doldrums. What Nigerians expect, and deserve, is the introduction of fiscal and monetary policies that will create jobs, fix healthcare and infrastructure, and stimulate the economy,” Mr Mark said.

Expressing his concern over poor the implementation of budget, the Senate President cautioned the president and his team to submit the 2013 budget to National Assembly on time to allow early deliberation and passage as has been the problem all these years.

A new but formidable evil has now combined with old and familiar perils to present our nation with perhaps the greatest challenge to its corporate existence since the civil war. I urge you all, therefore, to prepare to take on the unprecedented challenges facing our nation. The times call for sacrifice and statesmanship, and for everyone to rise above narrow and parochial interests,” he said.
